Willie Nelson pumps up 2008 tour plans

Unsurprisingly, veteran road warrior Willie Nelson is poised to remain on board his tour bus throughout early 2008.

The country legend, who earlier this year celebrated his 74th birthday, has added to his schedule a handful of January and February dates that fill gaps in his previously announced itinerary–including a two-night kick-off Jan. 3-4 in New Orleans–and has also mapped a healthy batch of March concerts. Details are included below.

Known for his non-stop touring, Nelson also continues to be prolific in the recording studio; the latest entry in his expansive and ever-growing catalog is a collaboration with big-band singer/pro-golfer Don Cherry titled “It’s Magic.” Released in early October, the new set comprises 12 classics, including “What a Wonderful World,” “You’ve Changed” and the title track.

In March, Nelson offered up “Last of the Breed,” a two-disc set that teamed Nelson with fellow Country Music Hall of Famers Merle Haggard and Ray Price. The set spawned the Nelson/Price track “Lost Highway,” which recently scored a Grammy nomination for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals.

Nelson recently told the Austin American-Statesman that his next record will be a collaboration with sister Bobbie Nelson and pop singer Jessica Simpson, the latter of whom he co-starred with in the big-screen version of “The Dukes of Hazzard.”
